About Us

· We encourage knowledge of and respect for our Constitution, the flag of the United States and for American institutions among school children, as well as adults.

· We help to support Veterans through collection of money and personal items, visits to hospitals and nursing homes, and participation in public events that honor veterans.

· We maintain an excellent genealogical library that houses a vast collection of family histories and lineage research papers.

· We are involved in the historic preservation of significant sites, monuments and buildings.

· DAR women take an active party in the literacy challenge by engaging in tutoring and other literacy endeavors.

· We promote American heritage by pursuing and rewarding excellence in American crafts such as carving, quilting, , painting and literature.

· We award educational scholarships to Native Americans, help support several schools for Native Americans, and encourage the respect for and knowledge of Native American history, crafts and culture.

· We provide manuals of citizenship to those wishing to become naturalized citizens.

· We promote conservation through the planting of trees and native plants, recycling activities and public awareness campaigns.

· We sponsor the American History essay contest for grades 5 through 8 and The Good Citizen award program for High School seniors.

· We maintain a highly-acclaimed and accredited museum of American heritage and artifacts in our DAR National Headquarters building in Washington DC.

· We fund many schools, many of which receive their main support from us.  We also provide financial aid and scholarships for many more.

· We award national scholarships for History, Medicine, American History and Occupational Therapy as well as other areas of study.
